The technique used in Solar PV panels

Photovoltaic system employs Solar PV panels composed of solar cells that contain photovoltaic material. The technique of generating electric power by converting the radiations of sun into direct electricity using semiconductors is called photovoltaics. A closely connected assembly of solar cells is called a solar PV panel.

Materials used in solar PV include polycrystalline silicon, cadmium telluride, copper indium gallium sulfide and amorphous silicon. With the growing demand for renewable energy the manufacturing of solar PV and solar cells has advanced in past few years. A solar PV system consists of charge controllers, battery, solar PV panels, tracking device and mounting structure, inverter and interconnections. Total global capacity of solar PV in 2010 was 40,000 MW. Solar PV is used by almost 100 countries.

A solar PV panel is used in large photovoltaic systems to supply and generate electricity in residential and commercial applications. A solar PV panel comes in poly crystalline, mono crystalline, thin-film and amorphous varieties. Through photovoltaic effect the solar PV panels use photons from the sun to generate electricity. Solar PV panels use daylight and do not necessarily need direct sunlight. Water pumping solar PV systems is used for drinking and irrigation water distribution. In 2007 the production of solar PV increased by 51%.
